This past weekend I began a new sermon series at Piney Grove based on Isaiah 9:6. In this series we are looking at the names of Jesus mentioned in this verse – Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father & Prince of Peace.
We began by looking at the fact that Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor. In last week’s message we discovered several ways that God speaks to us. The primary way being through His Word. We learned how powerfully God uses His Word that is living and active to speak to us.
This morning I found this to be especially true. I was reading in my devotion time and I ran across Psalm 46:7. Here is what it has to say, “The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” When I read this verse I was struck by how our God is always with us. He is truly is our Emmanuel. The Bible screams this truth over and over from cover to cover and not just in the passages about the birth of Jesus. Yet, I often overlook it.
Today I was reminded of a powerful truth that I have known for many years. God’s Word is faithful to speak. The only condition is that I need to be faithful to listen. If I don’t hear from God, it’s not that God is not speaking. The truth is that I am not listening.
As we move into the Christmas season, I want to encourage you to make time in your daily routine to listen. Be still in His presence. Stop all the busyness and listen. He is waiting to speak. All you need to do it open His Word and listen.
