After taking some time to look back on 2014, I can honestly say that it was a good year. Sure, there were many challenges last year. Of course, there was sadness last year. Yes, there was relationship conflict last year. However, in spite of all the trials and challenges of last year, it was a good year.
I believe the same is true for this year. Now, why do I believe that this year is going to be a good year? How can 2015 be a good year for all of us? Here are a few reasons…
- God is good. In Psalm 100:5 the psalmist writes, “For the LORD is good.” In spite of all the challenges that we will face this year, God is good. So, no matter how bad your circumstances might be this year, trust in God for He is good. If it were not for God and his unbelievable grace in my life, I would not be able to face a single day much less a year. My good God makes every year a good one.
- Friends are good. Now, I know that Bible says that no one is good. I know and believe that to be true. However, I also believe that when God captures a person’s heart He causes them to be about His business and do good. In 2014 I faced many challenges. I only came through them because I was surrounded by good friends who prayed for me and held me up when I was weak.
- Purpose is good. When Jesus saved me, He didn’t give me fire insurance. He saved me and gave me a purpose to live. That purpose is to – love God, love people and make disciples. So, most days I get up looking for how I can do those things. When I live for His purpose for my life, it changes the power that trouble has in my life. I am not here to live for my circumstances, I am here on earth to live for God’s purpose in spite of my circumstances. You are, too!
- Trouble is good. In John 16:33 Jesus said, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” In 2014 I found myself in the midst of trouble. Yet, God didn’t allow trouble to come into my life to defeat me. He allowed so that by His grace I might overcome it. Therefore, when I face trouble this year, I know that He has already overcome it.
I am sure that this year will be filled with it’s own share of battles and trials. However, I am confident that this year is gonna be a good year. So…trust in God, surround yourself with good friends, live for God’s purpose for your life and overcome trouble by God’s grace.
